Baldur’s Gate 3 Traveler’s Chest

If you’re on this page, you probably already know about the game Baldur’s Gate and just want to find out about Baldur’s Gate 3 Traveler’s Chest. For the sake of those who have not played the game, I’ll give a small ‘about’ on it. Skip the next paragraph if you are already familiar with Baldur’s Gate game.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is a 2023 role-playing video game developed and published by Belgian game developer Larian Studios. The game is the third installment in the Baldur’s Gate series, based on the tabletop fantasy role-playing system of Dungeons & Dragons.

Moving on, players of the game know the importance of storage space and will need it at some point in the game and that is where the Travellers’ chest comes in.

In this post, I’ll be discussing everything you need to know about the Baldur’s Gate 3 Traveler’s Chest including how it works and how to use it.

 What Is The Traveler’s Chest?

The Traveller’s Chest is a chest located in the player’s Campsite. Each player gets one uniquely colored chest determined by the order joined that the other players cannot access. All the different camps have designated places for the Traveller’s Chest and any item inside it will persist between all camps.

Location Of The Traveller’s Chest

The Traveller’s Chest can be found in the southwest portion of the map

What is a Campsite?

The Campsite is a location that becomes immediately accessible after the player completes the Prologue. This is a special location that the player discovers when they first initiate a long rest, and can subsequently be traveled to similarly or through fast travel.

It provides a location to swap or speak to party members, store or retrieve items from the Traveller’s Chest, change class or revive fallen Companions via Withers, or take a Long Rest.

Using The Traveller’s Chest

Trying to carry every single item in the game is a great way to get burdened and eventually, pass up on items. Gamers can give heavy pieces to other characters in the party but then they will become encumbered and won’t be able to carry more.

The Traveller’s Chest has an ‘Exclusive use: Public’ label that can make some gamers believe this equipment can be shared with the entire community. That’s a bit misleading so players can learn to use the Traveller’s Chest properly here.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Traveler’s Chest | How It Works

At any time, players can select an item in their player inventory and send it to the Traveller’s Chest by choosing the ‘Send to Camp’ option. This will keep the load light until ready to deal with it. Unlike some games, players do not have access to their storage while away from it, so prepare to come to camp and retrieve anything that needs to be used or sold before leaving camp.

When playing with friends, everybody can loot this chest. That is the reason for the ‘Public ’ label, not that anybody who plays the game has access to the chest. Most gamers trust their friends but are wary of putting anything of great value in there when playing with strangers.

Some items are used only in camp like rations and camp supplies. It’s okay to send these back to camp and keep them in the traveller’s chest for the remainder of the game because they would not be necessary at any other time unless players want to sell them for some quick cash which is not recommended.

Baldur’s Gate 3 was released on August 3rd, 2023 for Early Access on PC. The PlayStation 5 version was released on September 6th, 2023, and on the Xbox Series X/S, it was released on December 8th, 2023.
